Back to the game itself. Since the players will need to choose between allegiances, how drastically will their choices affect the outcome of the game?
Alan Miranda: Some choices will be very drastic indeed (saying more would spoil the story). Just know that our goal was to provide an adventure where players were offered a lot of choices, so based on how they choose their allegiances, it will change both how the game plays out at the start, as well as towards the end. In terms of gameplay time alone, different choices will alter half of the core storyline for the player.”

Secondly, a large proportion of games tend to ??“ simply through their construction ??“ severely restrict their own ability to create the build-up before dramatic decisions are to be made. Moreover, and probably more significantly, players can save their progress before making the choice, verify whether its outcome is beneficial enough to pursue, and only then make the actual decision, depending on what proves most advantageous. Now tell me, where is the fun in that? We addressed the problem by introducing a certain time delay before the consequences of any decision become apparent. Only after a couple of hours of gameplay will the player have to confront the outcomes of his choices. As a result, the gamer will truly have to follow his own consciousness, as he increasingly empathizes with Geralt and his predicaments. Even more significantly, however, whatever choices are made, all are equally valid, as all make the plot progress. Moral dilemmas, therefore, need to be treated as a price to be paid for the attainment of results. The consequences of these choices will steadily keep building up throughout the plot. A point I would like to add is that players will always be made fully aware why they are where they are in the story, as special cut-scene ???flashbacks??? will be employed.?

FiringSquad: What other new features will the expansion pack have?

Kevin Saunders: There’s one major gameplay system that we’ve developed with Wizards of the Coast. It’s not something from D&D, but it’s D&D flavored. This new feature has both combat and conversation implications and is intimately tied into the story and characters. We’ll be releasing more information in the near future.
We implemented many other new features, most of which are to further polish the NWN2 experience for both the player and for the content creator using the toolset. For example, we added the ability to use any 2D graphic as a custom portrait for creatures instead of the automatically generated 3D portraits.
And, of course, we added a lot on the gameplay side, including over 50 new spells, over 50 new feats, new items, crafting system enhancements, etc.?

Pro-G: We’ve seen several different interpretations of the action-RPG recently. How did you approach mixing the various merits of the two genres?Patrick Pligersdorffer: I would say we have developed more of an action game. There is not too much dialogue and we wanted to make it that way. Of course the RPG elements come with the weapons and spells and experience points and so on.?

GS: Just how flexible is the story? Are there still the multiple endings? How much replayability is there? Can you have dramatically different experiences if you play through the game and make different choices?

MM: The Witcher has three separate endings, and the ending you see will be tied to the choices made in the game. Differences between the alternate endings are huge and concern many aspects of the gameworld. The player will have to make a lot of tough choices that will put the lives of friends and foes in danger; and in the end, the player’s allegiances and decisions will determine more than just Geralt’s destiny.

In a single play-through, it’s only possible to learn about 60 percent of Geralt’s available skills, giving players the opportunity to enjoy the game in a different way in subsequent adventures. The differences in character “builds”–the different ways you can customize your character–are very visible. But this is just an additional feature. Replayability, above all else, is based on the possibility of making different choices each time.?

You’ve managed to shoe-horn the game on to one DVD. What are the consequences of that? Has anything had to be held back for downloadble content?

Ray Muzyka: We haven’t revealed any plans yet for post-release content; download, episodic. But Mass Effect is a natural fit for that kind of thing.

For the longest time we were pretty sure we were going to have to fit the game content onto two DVDs, because there’s just so much content in the game. Right now it looks like we’re going to get it on one and it’s been difficult because there’s a lot of content. It’s a very ambitious title.

The voice throughout the game as well; for the main character, all the party members; everybody talks.?
